A citation matrix was developed using the SCOPUS database. The database contains publications with high recognition in science and a large number of the literature in each area. The main search criteria were: terms similar to virtual tools in teaching-learning practices, and the keywords “teaching learning”.

The most relevant articles focused primarily on the use of chats, forums on the internet and teleconferences to teach and managing educational processes. These articles highlighted the benefits of using these tools and suggested that they could be a fantastic alternative to traditional classrooms. They also pointed out that they encourage active participation. Furthermore, they highlighted the importance of integrating these tools into the academic curriculum, in order to enable students to learn in a pliable manner and gain practical abilities that can be used in the workplace.
